Giniel De Villiers' typical discretion makes him more of an outsider than a favourite to win the rally. Yet the South African won the first edition of the Dakar in Argentina and Chile in 2009 and his involvement with the Toyota project could catapult him to the top places of the classification, although this year he may need his rivals to falter if he is to win the race again: "The main goal is to acquire experience with this car and lay the groundwork for the future. We will see what happens at the end. Our performance is not as good as the Minis', but in Morocco we saw that they are not perfectly reliable. Our strategy will be to stay close and take advantage of any mistakes they make."
