Williams is still deciding what to do about hiring a lead driver for 2012 season. Every sign is showing that the decision is going to come down to money. This is not good for the image of the team. If they fail to get the budget for this is season, then they must get what they can from the available drivers. Sutil is out of the picture because of fears about potential embarrassment about the alleged incident in a Shanghai night club last year. Barrichello continues to be in the picture and from what we know there are elements within the team who believe that the stability and technical understanding of Rubens will be vital to help the team score the best possible results this season.
To set the leadership on Pastor Maldonado is not a good idea, the Venezuelan driver has still to convince the F1 world that he has what it takes to be a full-time F1 driver without a huge sum of PDVSA money behind him.
Bruno Senna may have a good package of Brazilian sponsorship behind him ($16 million). There are still many who feel that he has to prove that he has what it takes to be a top-line F1 driver, his previous adventures with HRT and Lotus have been inconclusive. If the Renault F1 team had felt he was worthy of a top drive they would have kept him on, rather than signing Grosjean instead.
