Applications of NASA's Solar System Explorers

Explore the solar system with the application of NASA

The U.S. space agency, NASA, developing web-based solar system explorers that can be accessed public. The application named "Eyes of the Solar System" that presents an interface that combines video game technology and NASA data, allowing users to explore the entire solar system and explore NASA's mission has been and is ongoing.
"This is the first time the public could see the solar system and the mission we are doing in real time. This proves NASA's commitment to continue to share the knowledge we have on anyone," said Jim Green, director of the Planetary Science Division Physorg quoted as saying on Sunday ( 04/09/2011).
Virtual environment created in these applications using the Unity game engine to deliver model planets, satellites, asteroids, comets and spacecraft as the movement of all celestial bodies in the Solar System. Only with a keyboard and mouse, users can reach the corners of the solar system as desired.

To use this application, users can download plug ins available for free. "You are free to move through the Solar System. See what NASA spacecraft see, know where they are without leaving the computer," said Blaine Baggett, manager Communication and Education, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA in Pasadena.

Users can also promised to experience NASA's mission in real time by accessing the Eyes of the Solar System. In addition, users can also browse time. This is because the Eyes of the Solar System is equipped with NASA data from 1950 to projections in 2050 to come. Playback rate can be accelerated or slowed.
For example when the user wants to know about the Juno spacecraft mission, launched on August 5, 2011 and then, users simply set the playback speed. If you increase speed, users can enjoy the ride Juno for 5 years in just a few seconds.

Another advantage, the point of view can be changed from far to the right near the spacecraft. Location, movement and appearance based on the predictions of the NASA data. Control, pop ups, videos and other menu will assist users in accessing this application. Users can select 2D or 3D mode using special glasses.
"By basing on the data visualization of NASA's mission, this application will help NASA and the public to understand the complexity of space missions," said Kevin Hussey, Manager of Visualization Technology Application and Development at Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Eyes of the Solar System now has released its beta version. This application was demonstrated in Southwest Interactive Conference in Austin, Texas, a few moments ago. Today, application developers will continue to update the application, one of them by entering GRAIL mission to the Moon and to Mars Curiosity. You can go who want to use it to address :
