Fernando Alonso believes that a podium finish is the best that Ferrari can achieve in the Japanese Grand Prix, considering that the Red Bull will run away with the first places.
Alonso's Ferrari was second behind Jenson Button's car on Friday Susuka practices, but the spaniard expects Red Bull to improve tomorrow.
"Our goal is to fight for the podium in the remaining races of this season," said Alonso.
"We know that tomorrow Red Bull are going to be very strong, as they always are on Saturdays. In this type of circuit, the usual result is that Red Bull will finish first and second, so we need to fight with McLaren for third position "
Alonso thinks he can give a little more of himself for tomorrow.
"There's always more to improve on Saturday and I am sure that all drivers will try the same, even here in Susuka which is a circuit where if you push a little more of the account you can finish off the track, therefore you need a balance. That's an advantage for me, and tomorrow I have hopes to find a few spots to my advantage in the first sector, "he said.
"When you enter the zone of the" Esses ", it feels that you can push a little more than necessary, but with the tyres of this year that is not possible, so tomorrow I need to find a perfect lap on Q3."
There are no new parts in the Ferrari, Alonso said that the objective of today has been focused on working on the wheels, and expects a high number of pit stops during the race.
"There is no new parts in the car so we decided to concentrate on the tyres, enabling us to analyze how is the degradation over short distances and long distances, with both cars using different compounds," he explained.
