Tyre compound analysis for Japan

F1 en vivo fox sports

To analyze what can happen in qualifying and race in the Grand Prix of Japan, we must look at the last two races.
Sauber's car is an interesting one. While we note that Ferrari is not a fast car when they run with hard compound tyres, the Sauber seems to behave in a manner opposite to Ferrari. After being ranked as 15th in Monza, Sergio Perez was running a comfortable seventh place before his gearbox breaks.

When we started to analyze the technical data of this race, we had to check twice to be sure that Perez began the race with hard tyres. He was consistently faster with hard compounds than the cars behind him, who were with the compound that was supposed to be 1 second faster. In fact, the harder tyre was between 0.7 and 1 second slower in Monza. This is much more expected from a new tyre (about 0.3 seconds in Monza). Kobayashi was 0.3 seconds slower than Perez, and he was on soft tyres. He never used hard tyres so we do not have a reference for comparison.

Then we come to Singapore. This time Perez was ranked 11th, with super soft, behind the Force India. In the race he held that position without being able to overcome them. Di Resta was on the hard compound, he was running away from Perez with the soft ones in the first stint. This happened after these soft wheels lose the grip of the first few laps. In the second stint, Perez was on hard tyres, in a few laps he managed to reach Di Resta, who was on the hard tyres. Di Resta won 0.4 seconds per lap on the soft tyres (personal time). The Sauber was fastest with the hard tyres than with the soft.
Is this a trend?, We analyzed data from previous classifications, hoping to find that Sauber struggled on the tracks that they ran with the super soft tyres. Perez was in the top ten in Monaco and Hungary. Therefore it is not fulfilled what we expected. This behavior is what we would expect from a car that consumes the tyres evenly, like a Ferrari.
In general, the performance of Ferrari, is quite similar to the other cars. The Sauber, who seem to be quicker with hard wheels have a completely different behavior to others.
